Dear Student Organization Presidents,

On behalf of all of us in the Office of Campus Activities, we would like to show our continued support for you and for the members of your organization in light of yesterday's tragic incident. As student leaders you are in a position to be a resource to those within your group and we as an office would like to remind you that we are here for you and your members as well. 

We recognize that our student life community is devoted to the service of others and that some of your members may have been volunteering their time with the marathon on behalf of either themselves or your organization. In order to best reach the students most closely affected by the event from yesterday, we are asking all organization leaders to let us know of members of your organization who may have been present at the finish line, or who might have been volunteering.  As a community, it is vital to draw strength and comfort from each other during this unsettling time, and we as an office would like to make sure students are receiving any resources they may need. You can either reach out to our office with this information by responding to this email or by calling (617) 373-2642 or by contacting the WeCare program at wecare@neu.edu or (617) 373-4384.

The Huntington 100:
Distinguished Juniors & Seniors program
(formerly 100 Most Influential Seniors)

After six consecutive years running the 100 Most Influential Seniors program, Student Affairs is proud to announce The Huntington 100 : Distinguished Juniors & Seniors program, a restructured version of the program, complete with new name, more streamlined nomination process, revised criteria and newly-formed selection committee.

One goal of the program is to develop a corps of students as an affinity group for the University. Consequently, the selection of juniors will allow selected students to take part in admissions recruiting events, alumni chapter development and student mentoring.

Spirit of the award
The honored students must have impressive experience that is commensurate with the University's mission, ideals, values and Academic Plan. These students should represent what Northeastern is today - a selective institution with rigorous academic programs and a sharp focus on the global experience. The new criteria for the 2013 program are:

• Excellent academic and judicial standing
   
• An exemplary record of service, be it within the University, or another community
   
• Academic success: a transcript that reflects outstanding academic performance
   
• Global experience, in the form of international co-op, study abroad or other experiential learning beyond the USA
   
• Demonstrated leadership in campus involvement
   
• Commitment to a high level of ideals and ability to positively represent the values of Northeastern
   
• Demonstrated entrepreneurial or innovative spirit
   
• Graduating Senior or junior year status

Nominating students
Faculty, staff, advisors, coaches and students may nominate students who are expected to graduate in 2013 or 2014. In the spirit of elevating civility and ethical reasoning on campus and in the wider world, the College of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Office of Student Affairs will organize a yearlong series of six events hosted by Distinguished Professor of Political Science Michael S. Dukakis. "Understanding Hate" is the first event in the series. Open to the entire Northeastern University community, these events will spark conversations about the challenges and promises of increasingly diverse societies.

Off Campus Student Services serves as a communication link and educational resource to Northeastern University students who live off-campus.

The mission of the Community Ambassadors is to foster and enhance the off-campus student living experience through education, advocacy, and involvement. Community Ambassadors are student employees who work with Off Campus Student Services as liaisons in outreach, program planning, and community building for off-campus students.

Responsibilities of a CA include:

• Keep students connected to the university and the community.
• Regularly communicate with students to address questions about off-campus living.
• Plan and present educational programs and events related to off-campus living.
• Plan community building and social programs for students in the neighborhood.
• Lead students in community service events (i.e. Breakfast Club, Mission Hill Road Race, NU Service Day, N2N).
• Attend neighborhood association meetings.
• Be a model citizen and role model for other students residing in local neighborhoods.
• Inform students about local neighborhood and community events.
• Inform and educate students about city services and resources.

Qualifications:
Upper-class student; Reside off-campus in local neighborhood fall and spring semester; Good standing at the university (academic & judicial); Satisfactory completion of training.

Skills:
Responsible & dependable; Community-minded; Strong communication skills; Team player; Leadership/mentor skills.

Delta Tau Delta Fraternity

True to its motto, "Committed to Lives of Excellence," Delta Tau Delta, a new fraternity has arrived at Northeastern with a mission to provide leadership experience and professional development to the undergraduate population. Representatives of Delta Tau Delta will be stationed in the Curry Student Center for four weeks, meeting with interested students about this unique opportunity. Those men who are invited to found the newest Delt chapter will gain valuable business skills, managing and motivating their peers as the chapter distinguishes itself on campus. The Northeastern University Student Presidential Ambassador Corps program is a newly established opportunity for Northeastern students to assist with the execution of special university functions and represent Northeastern at events both on campus, at the home of President Aoun, and elsewhere. Ambassadors may also assist with visits to campus by international dignitaries and other VIPs. Students gain experience and training in event management while earning a competitive hourly wage.

Ambassadors will be drawn from all colleges and academic disciplines. The size of the Ambassador Corps will begin with 12 students. Preference will be given to second-, third- and fourth-year students. Ambassadors may be called upon to represent the university at social functions both on and off campus, and to serve as VIP handlers, special event facilitators and greeters or ushers.

Ambassadors are expected to have great enthusiasm for Northeastern and the student experience, to attend scheduled meetings for training and instruction, and to conduct themselves with high standards of personal integrity and decorum. Candidates for the program must complete an application and describe why he or she is best suited for the position. Please identify any special interests, language abilities or related experience that would make you a particularly effective member of the Corps.

The Safe Zone program has undergone a major update over the past semester!  The program is now split into two parts: LGBTQA 101 and Safe Zones.  We hope that these updates will encourage better dialogue about LGBTQ issues on campus, and help people feel more prepared to step up as an ally and advocate.

The following is message from the Office of the Vice President of Information Services:

Information Services is pleased to announce the expansion of printing services to the recently renovated Curry Student Center (CSC). Working in collaboration with the Curry Student Center Operations team, self-service printers were added to the ground, first, and third floors of the facility. Students will now be able to use their Free Print Allowance to print from these locations, and the printers will utilize the same Virtual Print Client that is available for download from myNEU Software Downloads.

Dear Student Leaders:

On behalf of the Office of Campus Activities, the Student Government Association (SGA), the Student Involvement Board (SIB) and the Graduate Student Government (GSG), we are excited to announce a new initiative beginning in January 2013 that will contribute to the advancement of all student organizations here on campus. Northeastern student organizations are poised to lead a new innovative path toward large-scale impact both on campus and globally. To aid in supporting our groups in these endeavors, we are pleased to introduce the creation of Student Organization Leadership Councils.

Each recognized student organization will be grouped with like-minded student organizations to participate in a council that will:

• Promote leadership development
• Provide outlets for collaboration and conversation among student groups
• Explore opportunities for making a greater impact in our society

All recognized student organizations will be reclassified into new categories that reflect your group's involvement in these councils.
