Northeastern 2014-2015 Concrete Canoe Team

What is Concrete Canoe?

Each year close to 200 American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapters build canoes made entirely of concrete.  The concrete mix, reinforcement and mold are designed by each team with the goal of withstanding up to four rowers in endurance slalom and sprint races.

Canoe competitions are judged by engineering professionals and the teams are scored on the canoe design, a design report, an oral presentation and a variety of races.

Our Team

Our canoe team consists of over 20 undergraduate students who design the concrete mix and test close to 150 cylinders, design and construct the canoe mold, pour the concrete and perform a finite element analysis of the canoe under racing and vibrational loads during transportation to the race.

We are working to build on our third place finish at last year's regional competition, with the ultimate goal of qualifying to compete in the national competition.
