To provide students with education, awareness, and support in regards to eating disorders, problematic eating and exercise behaviors, body image, self-esteem, nutrition, and media literacy.

NEWCOPE is one of the longest running peer support organizations for weight and eating problems among Boston universities. The organization was started in 1995 as an outgrowth of a project in Professor Emily Fox-Kales' Eating Disorders and Human Feeding Behavior course at Northeastern University. Professor Fox-Kales remains the Faculty Director of NEWCOPE to this day.


About NEWCOPE's Faculty Director

Emily Fox-Kales, Ph.D, is a clinical psychologist who specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and body image disturbances. Since 1993, Dr. Fox-Kales has been on the faculty of Northeastern University, where she teaches film, psychology and gender studies in Psychology and Cinema Studies departments. She is the author of Body Shots: Hollywood and the Culture of Eating Disorders.
